Fall 2008

Polliwog I- level 1
(ages 6-12)
This class is for beginners or for children who have not taken swim lessons before or still need some special attention to get use to the water. The focus of this class is on water adjustment and introduction of front crawl or freestyle. A goal of this class is to be able to swim with arms out of the water for half the length of the pool.

Maximum of 6 in the class.

Polliwog II-level 2
(ages 6-12)
This is a beginner class for children who are comfortable in the water and can swim for half a pool length. The main focus for this class is rotary breathing and the introduction of elementary backstroke and backstroke. A goal for this class is to be able to swim with your arms out for full 25 meters of the pool.

Guppy-level 3
(ages 6-12)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of the Polliwog requirements or the ability to swim 25 meters without a floatation device. The main goal of this class is to have a child swim 25 meters with rotary breathing consistently and 25 meters elementary backstroke.

Minnow-level 4
(ages 6-12)
Prerequisites: The successful completion of Guppy requirements or the ability to swim 25 meters rotary breathing. Students should be able to swim elementary backstroke for 25 meters. The main goal of this class is to have a child swim 50 meters with rotary breathing. This class will also work on the backstroke for 50 meters and introduce the

breaststroke kick.

Fish-level 5
(ages 6-12)
Prerequisites: The successful completion of the Minnow requirements of the ability to swim 50 meters freestyle with rotary breathing and 50 meters backstroke. The main goals of this class are to swim 100 meters freestyle with rotary breathing, 50 meters breaststroke and kick for 50 meters.

Fish Wednesday 4:40-5:25 pm
Fish Saturday 9:50-10:35 am

Flying Fish-level 6
(ages 6-12)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of the Fish level or ability to swim 100 meter freestyle with rotary breathing, 50 meters breaststroke and 50 meters butterfly kick. The main goals of this class are to introduce the butterfly stroke. The 200 individual medley and endurance training will continue.

Flying Fish Thursday 4:35-5:200 pm

Shark/Porpoise-level 7
(ages 6-12)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Flying Fish level or swim 200 meter individual medley without stopping. This combo class will work on stroke technique and endurance. There is also an opportunity to become a volunteer and help teach swim lessons at the Y on Saturdays.

Private Swim Instruction
(ages 3 and up)
This six-week program is for those who need individual attention in the water. Our instructor works will work one on one with the student to gain confidence in the water and perfect their stroke. To register, full out a wait-list form. List several days and times when the student is available. Due to a high demand, we cannot guarantee the days and times requested. Approval is given by the Aquatics Manager.

Very Limited space.

YMCA Progressive swimming lessons:

This is a 7-level program that allows children ages 6-12 years old to progress at their own rate.

Classes cover stroke development, personal safety, water sports, games and personal growth.

If you are in swim lessons you must bring in your child's report card for registration. This expedites the registration process for everyone on the day of registration.
