Circuit Training
Pressed for time? This fast paced class gives a total-body workout in 45 minutes. Basic strength training exercises are blended with exciting agility and balance exercises to optimize your time in the gym without putting too much stress on the joints.

This class is held in "The Circuit" and instructed by Certified Personal Trainers. If you like 30-minute gyms, you’ll love this class. It’s classic.

Personal Training Information

New Member Orientation – Complimentary
New members at the Y are treated to a unique opportunity. Please call the Fitness Director, Kelly (ext. 28) to make your appointment for a free equipment orientation with a member of the YMCA fitness staff. Learn more about the facility and where fitness can take you.

This session is free with a new membership and is a great opportunity to get a jump-start on working one-on-one with a Certified Personal
Trainer. One-hour sessions are available any time the Y is open and are priced as shown below.

Body Composition Analysis
The Morris Center YMCA offers a Body Composition Analysis by a Certified Personal Trainer. This service helps members who wish to stay abreast of their fitness level. It can also serve as a lead-in to ndividualized personal training.

Every Body Composition Analysis will include:

  • Completion of the YMCA health history sheet including muscular and joint screening
  • Height and Weight Measurements
  • Resting Heart Rate
  • Sit-and-Reach Flexibility test

Fitness evaluations can also include the following services if the trainer and member agree they are desired:
  • Body Fat Percentage Analysis
  • Body Mass Index Analysis
  • Blood Pressure Reading
  • Working Heart Rate Test (3-minute step test)
  • Bench Press (or chest press)
  • Strength Test
  • Girth Measurements

Personal Training
Personal training is available for adults. Sessions are available for 1 hour and ½ hour increments. All YMCA Personal Trainers are nationally certified, trained in emergency first response and follow YMCA policies and procedures. The Fitness Management staff is constantly providing
new resources to the training staff to make your workouts more effective.
Prices for individual sessions are as follows:

Cancellation policy for personal training: A minimum of 24 hours notice is required for cancellations.

Group Personal Training
Try this fun and exciting new way to train! Enjoy working out with a partner or group of partner. (no more than 3 participants) along with a certified personal trainer.

Golf Conditioning
Guaranteed to help lower your handicap, Golf Conditioning will help you make the transition from the couch to the course. Golf enthusiasts will gather in the fitness center to work on their strength, flexibility and stamina necessary to maximize your driver’s potential and develop finesse around the greens. The course blends resistance training,
dynamic stretching and cardiovascular exercise while working up to swinging the club again… or for the first time. For adults.

Pre-registration is required. There is a fee for this class. This class is offered during the winter session.

Circuit Training

Enjoy the benefits of strength training, cardiovascular training, step aerobics and circuit training is a high-paced, fun class sure to get you out of your comfort zone.

Bosu

This is a unique multi-dimentional training device that intergrates Core Training, Functional Sports Training, Balance Training and Aerobics. This class is guaranteed to get your heart rate up while strengthening your legs and core.

Chair Yoga
Come explore a safe, comfortable way to experience the ancient physical practice of Yoga- in a chair! If you spend time sitting in a car or at a desk or while watching tv, this class is for you!

Chi Gong
A form of Tai Chi, this moving combination of both Yoga and meditation consists of a series of postures that are derived from a martial arts discipline but designed to mimic nature. Chi Gong aims to foster a calm and tranquil mind and helps improve balance, alignment, fine scale motor control, and rhythm of movement.

Feldenkrais
Individuals will learn how to reduce stress on joints and improve flexibility and range of motion. It is also popular among individuals with back pain, shoulder tension and musculoskeletal problems. Feldenkrais lessons are safe, gentle and meditative.

Flex Tech's

Join a strong group of members to learn more about flexibility and how stretching can benefit your long-term health and help prevent arthritis, osteoporosis and other ailments.

Fit over 50
A class designed for those with musculoskeleton/joint problems who wish to increase their flexibility, balance, and strength. Taught by Jean George, ACSM certified a specialist in muscular movements. This class will involve weight training, stretching and pilates type of movements to increase flexibility, balance and strength.

 

 

Kickboxing
This fun-packed class incorporates both the stimulating moves of a boxer in the ring as well as the cardiovascular challenges of a high intensity workout. A terrific way to get in shape!

Low Impact
An aerobics class using basic dance choreography. This class will also incoporate strength training and stretching.

On The Ball
This class will help develop overall strength, using a resistance ball. Upper and lower body exercises will be included.

P.A.C.E./Tai Chi for Arthritis

(People with Arthritis Can Exercise)
This course is designed to help participants increase joint flexibility and increase range of motion. With the guidance of a certified Arthritis Foundation instructor, you will learn exercises to maintain muscle strength and increase overall stamina.

Pilates (Beginner)

What is Pilate’s? How does it help? What do you have to do? Find out from our certified fitness professionals who specialize in Pilate’s and other wellness disciplines.

Pilates
This class is based on the concepts of Joseph Pilates with the goal of strengthening the core muscles of the body (the hips, abdomen and lower back muscles). Discover the dancers secret to creating a stronger and leaner look.

Rising Sun Yoga
Looking for a great way to greet the day? Try this Hatha Yoga approach to stretching and strengthening your body with our early morning yoga enthusiasts. This class is for all fitness levels and is a perfect way to get into good health.

Spinning
One of the most time and cardio effective workouts ever devised! Emphasis is on proper cycling techniques. All fitness levels welcome. A towel and water bottle are mandatory for class participation and early arrival is encouraged as classes fill up quickly. (Sign-in at the front desk)Heart rate monitors are recommended.

Step


An aerobic program using traditional steps and risers (an oldie but goodie) Challenging for all levels of ability.

Strength Training

One of the most popular classes offered at the Y! This class uses many of our Personal Trainers’ expertise to create an overall workout supervised by some of our very best.


Toning/Balls, Bands, & Barbells

Get right to the nitty-gritty. Our toning classes offer strength-training exercises right for those looking to lose a few pounds and tone up without having to figure out all those machines in the fitness center.

Tums and Buns
A class designed to target those trouble spots: the abdomen and buttocks.

 

Urban Rebounding
Hot! Hot! Hot! Try this wonderful way to exercise by using Rebounders! Similar to mini trampolines but with lower jumping distances, this is a great workout for those who have knee injuries or cannot take the impact that traditional aerobics classes offer. It is a fantastic workout for ALL ages. Suitable for all levels! Be prepared to sweat!

Yoga

A class for the combine, that teaches you how to gently move from position to position and help you develop the necessary discipline for more challenging yoga.

Vinyasa Yoga

An active form of this classical blend of fitness and wellness. The Vinyasa discipline stresses proper breathing and movement. With roots in the Hindu religion and strong ties to many Indian traditions, Vinyasa Yoga is gaining mainstream

popularity with exercise purists.

 

Weight Resistance Training
Want a no-nonsense approach to weight training with our expert group fitness instructor? Wayne will use a variety of weights and resistance exercises to tone and strengthen those looking for a back-to-basics class for getting in shape.
