Specialty Camps

This year there are over 25 specialized camps for your child to choose

from. Every instructor brings years of experience to their chosen camp.

Each week a child can choose to be creative or active. Enrich your child’s

imagination by taking arts and crafts, dance, science, photography/nature

walks. For the active child, physical sport camps such as golf, tennis

fishing, basketball, football and cheerleading are offered.

Specialty Camps run from 9:00 am-12:00 Noon.

Drop-off can begin at 8:00 am.

Early drop-off is available beginning at 7:30 am

for an additional $35 a week.

Extended day is also available from 12 Noon-6:00 pm for an additional
$100 a week.

Creative Camps:


Abrakadoodle Animae

Gr. K-2)

Learn how to draw Animae - the Japanese art of drawing. Learn about the basics of drawing people, animal animae and more. Play Japanese games. The Anime Guide Book will help you through the steps to creating our own anime characters. Keep the book and your kit materials to further explore this unusual art form.

Classes help children develop both skills and confidence! Class enrollment is limited to 8 (on-site)


Abrakadoodle Green (Gr. K-2) (Gr.3-6)

Green kids care about the environment. Create remarkable art using recycled items such as CD's, plastic bottles, packaging, paper tubes and more. Our recyclers will learn about reusing common everyday items and turning them into masterpieces. There’ll be lots of 3-D projects such as creating French Santons statues and fuzzy animals and puppies, as well as using reusable items for painting and drawing! Join our colorful world and put the emphasis on GREEN!

Museum Magical Mystery (Gr. 2-6)

Who is our mystery artist? You will be a sleuth and collect clues while exploring artwork of great artists like Cezanne, Korky Paul, O’Keeffe and more. We will travel virtually to museums around the world where we’ll learn new techniques,art words, facts and create our own masterpieces! There will be games, activities, artist trading cards and the Abrakadoodle Studio 2 Challenge Book as well as take home materials for you to use to create at home!

Zoo Doodle Safari (Gr. K-1)
Lions and tigers and snakes, oh my! On safari we will create jungle cats, monkeys, elephants and more on this Abrakadoodle adventure. We’ll make safari art with paints, modeling materials and wild animal print paper.

Photography (Gr.2-6) Campers will work with cameras; shooting, processing, and printing pictures, as well as visiting a shop to see how film is developed. Hiking is incorporated in order to experience the beauty of our many parks and wildlife refuge. They will create a photo album from their week long experience. (Loantaka Park, Jockey Hollow, Great Swamp, and a local camera shop)


Sewing (Gr.3-6) Campers will be able to explore their talents and imagination to create a variety of projects using several sewing techniques. Cross-stitch, basic sewing, and yarn work will all be incorporated throughout the week.

Dance Camps:


Spirit Unlimited Cheerleading (Gr.K-6) Beginner to novice campers will

learn routines, combinations, and choreography as well as common

cheers. The values of teamwork, fair play, and integrity are always

incorporated. (on-site)


Spirit Unlimited Dance (Gr.K-6) Get a great summer camp experience and a top notch routine all in one! Spirit Unlimited choreographers will teach new and creative material in a summer camp atmosphere. Awards and evaluations are included. (on-site)


Leslie’s Dance(Gr.K-1)

Opening stretches, basic stretches and varied movements such as yoga. The creative movement class includes props where the child is encouraged to use their imagination. Jazz/Hip Hop class will be tons of fun. There will also be choreography workshop, letting the child explore how dances are put together, while choreographing their own dance routine.

Science Camps:

Botball Robotics (Gr.2-6)

You will build and take home your very own Botball robot. The soccer-playing, remote-control Botball can kick and move in any direction. Up to four robots can take part in the action as students learn how to control the ball, hold it, and kick it with an infrared remote controller. It’s a challenge, but easy to do if you are ready to think.
Weasel Robotics (Gr. 2-6)

The weasel is sleek, smart, and simply amazing. It has two motors, a three speed gearbox, and WOW can it go fast!Two photo sensors allow it to see a line or feel its way along walls. Watch it as it travels. It’s all yours to make and keep. Learn about gears, sensors, electronic components, circuit boards and much more. You will also get to build other things.
Little Scientists (K-1)

Campers will learn to utilize everyday materials while participating in interesting experiments. Making slime, crystals, and play-doh are just a few of the fun ideas to be carried out.


Sport Camps
:


Kids on the Run (Gr. K-1) For the child who likes variety, this is the class!

This camp is a combination of sports and arts and crafts. Campers will play different sports throughout the week and bring an art project home with them each day. (Blake Center)


Basketball (Gr. 2-6) Each camper will learn the fundamentals; ball handling, lay-ups, foul shots and defensive positioning. All skills will be taught with drills, scrimmages and actual games

Fishing (Gr. 2-6) Campers are given hands-on-instruction on how to bait,

cast and unhook fish. These basic skills are taught in a safe environment

such as Sunrise Lake and Loantaka Pond. (off-site)


Golf (Gr. 3-6) Campers get the chance to visit different golf ranges and

miniature golf courses. Throughout the week they will learn the

fundamentals of golf, golf etiquette and receive one-on-one instruction from an experienced golfer. (off-site)


Soccer (Gr. 2-6) The first three sessions begin with a focus on the

fundamental ball skills. The last two sessions start with more advanced

skills. Each day ends with a game where players are taught to use

their skills in a group. (Mennen Field)


Tennis (Gr. 2-6) Campers will learn the basic fundamentals of tennis

while playing against fellow campers of same ability. Serving, volleying,

net play and scoring will be emphasized. (off-site)


Y World of Sports (Gr. 2-6) Children will play a variety of sports and learn

the importance of teamwork. Different sports that will be played are,

soccer, basketball, baseball and more. (on-site)


Football (Gr. 4-6)
Still have that Giants Super Bowl fever? Get ready for this season.

YMCA campers do their pre-season football training right

here in Morris County. Coaches will be onhand to instruct your 4th through 6th grader on the finer points of football

in this non-contact, week-long clinic. (off-site)


Baseball (Gr. 2-6)

Play ball!

Throughout the week children will learn the following fundamentals

of baseball: throwing, catching, hitting and running the bases. (off-site)


MUSIC:


Keyboarding (Gr. 1-6) Proven group format for beginners offers a fun

approach to help kids learn to read music. Many different activities in

each class help teach the children: timing, fingering, music theory and

much more. Kids use state of the art Casio keyboards and play in

ensembles and solo. (on-site)

are available.

Summer swim registration begins

on Feb. 9. Please contact the

Aquatics department regarding specific summer swim questions. Your child will be

swim tested the first day of their lessons.

Any camper

enrolled in swim lessons will be taken to the pool and returned by camp counselors.
