Make a Difference
Your Strong Kids campaign donations do so much. Read the stories below.
The names have been changed to protect their identities.
Jackson
Jackson comes from a big, loving family. He and his parents are close to his grandparents, his aunts and uncles. Come summertime though, no one in Jackson's family could teach him how to swim because they didn't know how. Through donations to our Strong Kids Campaign, the Y was able to collaborate with the the Morristown Neighborhood House and provide swim lessons to Jackson and a hearty group of his peers. When Jackson swam without a bubble for the first time, he said it was the best day of his life!
Be a 'best day of my life' hero.
Jacob
'Thank you Mommy for bringing me to this camp. I have fun here. I passed the swimming test. I'm a good swimmer!'
Simple words from one of our Backyard Kids summer campers? That's what we thought too until we spoke to his mother.
We were happy that Jacob learned to swim but it is what his mother later shared with us that makes the Y different. Jacob was a MC YMCA scholarship recipient from the Jersey Battered Women's Service of Morris County. She told us that it was great he had learned to swim, but what was even greater was for the first time in a long time, he felt good about himself. It was the first time a male in his life (our instructor) told him he was good at something. It wasn't just about the swimming. It was about the confidence and trust he learned at camp. She was so grateful to the people who donated to the Strong Kids campaign because she believed his experiences at camp would make him a better student once school starts in the fall. It also allowed her and Jacob to begin to put the pieces of their lives back together. Jacob is now a good swimmer, but he found out he is so much more. Jacob's mom just wanted to say "Thanks". Every donation makes a difference.
Lila
"I like my Y school because I love my friends here," said one of our 4 year olds who has received scholarship aid to attend our Richard. F. Blake Children's Center. It could have also been said by her mom because now she has met other working moms who share the same triumphs and struggles. Donating to our Strong Kids campaign does so much for those who need it the most.
Our Strong Kids campaign is funded by members, staff, our board of directors and many residents, grants and employers in our community who share our mission and choose to be a hero. Consider donating today.
